Summer school on “Ancient Greek and Roman Numismatics”

On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, students from the summer school on “Ancient Greek and Roman Numismatics”, held for the second time by the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, visited the Bank’s Numismatic Collection and attended a numismatics seminar at the Educational Programs Hall. Overall, 18 students from 10 different countries, accompanied by Numismatist Sophia Kremydi, acquainted themselves with the Collection’s history and its various activities, while they also discussed selected topics related to numismatics, ranging from the time coins first appeared to the Roman era.

Students showed particular interest in the method used to produce ancient coins and ‘struck’ themselves an Athenian tetradrachm and a tetradrachm of Alexander the Great, roughly following the ancient technique. Finally, they visited the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection’s Exhibition and received detailed informative material.
