“Copying (in) the past”

The Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection participates in the exhibition “Copying (in) the past: Stories of imitation and inspiration”

On Saturday, November 24, 2018, a new temporary exhibition titled “Copying (in) the past: Stories of imitation and inspiration” opened at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.

The Exhibition explores the important act of copying in the past and present, as well as its many different aspects. The 110 exhibits on display narrate stories of imitation and inspiration, starting from the pre-historic era and going as far as today. Combining words, sounds and images, they launch a productive dialogue with visitors.

The Bank’s Numismatic Collection participates in the Exhibition with six ancient coins: two from Macedonia, one from Thrace and three imitations of coins by Celtic tribes that lived in Europe from the 3rd up to the 1st century BC.

The Exhibition further features the participation of the Cast Museum of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the École Française d'Athènes (French School at Athens), the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutzos Museum, the Benaki Museum – Ghika Gallery, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s Telloglion Foundation and the Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki.
