Following a suggestion by the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of the Dodecanese, the specially designed suitcase of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection’s educational programme “Nomos-Nomizo-Nomisma” travelled to the small island of Chalki, where it will remain until June 8, 2018.

Initially, a short presentation of the Programme, for Primary School students, took place, as the Teachers will then carry out the Programme themselves. The young students put together a large jigsaw puzzle featuring the map of the ancient world, they became acquainted with landmark moments in ancient history and Greek mythology and produced their own coin out of play dough.

A talk titled “The fascinating history of coins”, addressed to the Chalki Gymnasium and Lyceum students, followed, where the evolution of the medium of transaction in Greece was presented, from its first appearance up to the arrival of the Euro. Students were particularly interested in the coins issued by the modern Greek State and discussed history topics related to the subjects taught at school.

During the visit to the School of Chalki, all students received rich supervisory material, which was also given to the Library along with all of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection’s large editions.

Mrs. Pothiti Loi and Mrs. Evangelia Moula, who are in charge of School Activities at the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of the Dodecanese respectively, attended the Programme and the Numismatic Collection’s presentation in Chalki.

There are 24 children at the Chalki Primary School and another 15 students at the Gymnasium and Lyceum.
