The temporary exhibition “THE EUROPE OF GREECE: COLONIES AND COINS FROM THE ALPHA BANK COLLECTION”, organised by the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection at two of the Museum’s Temporary Exhibitions Galleries since 11 April 2014, has been concluded.

The Exhibition was scheduled to run until 19 April 2015. However, it was extended until 18 October 2015 due to the particular interest it generated and the high turnout it attracted.

Specifically, about 200,000 persons visited the Exhibition, while 2,000 children attended the specially designed educational programme “Daring Explorers and Pioneer Colonists”, which was conducted concurrently.

In the context of the Exhibition, several parallel events took place. More specifically:
- In July 2014 summer educational workshops were organised, entitled “Sea Voyages in Ancient Times” and “Intrepid Seafarers in Great Adventures!” for children aged 5-7 and 8-11 years respectively.
- On 6 February 2015 the Scientific Meeting “Greek Colonisation: New Data, Current Approaches” was held, with the participation of fifteen historians and archaeologists from Greece, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, and Australia, who are engaged with the study of the Greek Colonisation.

Furthermore, on specific dates dedicated to culture, such as the International Museum Day (18 May 2015) and the European Heritage Days (25-27 September 2015), the public was offered guided tours by archaeologists of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
